Updated: Aug 13

August in Washington means one thing to wine lovers — it’s Washington Wine Month! And here in Ellensburg, our downtown tasting rooms and specialty shops are raising a glass to celebrate the incredible wines, farmers, and small businesses that make our region so special.

Downtown Ellensburg is home to a vibrant wine community — a collection of tasting rooms and shops that bring the flavors of Washington’s vineyards right to your glass. This month, we invite you to come “Walk the Wine Block” and explore the unique personalities and pours from our local wine partners: Fortuity Cellars, Bon Somm, Valo Cellars, Gard Vintners, and Brix Wine Bar. Each offers a different expression of Washington wine, but all share one thing — a deep passion for our state’s winegrowing heritage.

Why Washington Wine Month Matters

Washington Wine Month isn’t just about what’s in the glass — it’s about honoring the agricultural community behind it. Our wineries are deeply connected to Washington’s farmers, vineyard stewards, and grape growers. Every bottle tells the story of soil, sunshine, and seasons. By supporting Washington wineries, you’re also supporting the local agricultural economy — from the hands that plant the vines to the families that tend the land.

And in Ellensburg, our wineries aren’t just wine producers or purveyors — they’re neighbors, event hosts, and cheerleaders for our small-town community. They sponsor local events, donate to fundraisers, and collaborate with other small businesses to keep our downtown thriving. Supporting them means investing in the fabric of who we are.

Small Business, Big Impact

Small businesses are the backbone of Ellensburg. Our downtown tasting rooms, wine bars, and bottle shops are independently owned, run by people who pour their hearts into what they do — often quite literally. Every time you stop in for a tasting flight, pick up a bottle for dinner, or bring visiting friends for an afternoon of wine exploration, you’re helping keep our historic downtown lively and strong.

Whether you’re a longtime local or a first-time visitor, there’s something magical about wandering our charming downtown streets, popping into a tasting room, chatting with a winemaker, and discovering your new favorite Washington wine.

Walk the Wine Block This Month

This August, we’re inviting you to make your way down the Wine Block — a stroll through downtown Ellensburg that connects our tasting rooms and wine-focused shops. Start with a crisp, bright white at Fortuity Cellars, savor bold reds at Valo Cellars and Gard Vintners, and finish with a glass or bottle from Brix Wine Bar. Explore curated selections and special tasting events like Washington and the World with Sommelier Kristine Miller at Bon Somm. You can also find non-alcoholic wines at The Grazing Table, located inside the historic Fitterer Building.

Along the way, you’ll enjoy not just exceptional wines, but also the warm hospitality and personal connection that only small businesses can offer.

So, grab your friends, mark your calendar, and make Downtown Ellensburg your destination for Washington Wine Month. When you raise a glass here, you’re celebrating not just great wine, but the farmers, makers, and small businesses that make our community vibrant and unique.

Cheers to Washington wine — and to the Wine Block!
