Restoring "Ross The Hub" Mural on the Kleinberg Building
The Kleinberg Building in Downtown Ellensburg was built by successful merchants Samuel and Henry Kleinberg in 1889 using reinforced masonry following the great downtown fire the earlier year.
The Kleinberg Building’s “Ross the Hub” mural holds a significant place in our town’s history. The Kleinberg family first established a pool hall and cigar bar called “The Hub” in 1890. In 1908, the Ross family acquired the building, converting the space into a men’s department store named “The Hub Clothiers.”
The current mural is believed to have been created between 1939 and 1943, with updates made through 1946 as business partnerships evolved.
The mural advertises well-known brands of the time, such as Stetson Hats, Levi’s jeans, and Justin and Nocona boots. Ross’ The Hub Clothiers remained a staple of Ellensburg’s downtown from 1908 until 1960.
