Ellensburg Downtown Association Hosts Wyoming Main Street Delegation

Downtown Ellensburg will host a delegation of 30 downtown revitalization volunteers and professionals from Wyoming’s stat-wide Main Street program this Friday March 23.  The group of representatives from Wyoming’s Main Street Board and 5 Main Street communities will be touring Downtown Ellensburg and meeting with local staff and volunteers in advance of the upcoming National Main Streets conference in Seattle March 25-28

Randy Adams, program manager for the Wyoming Main Street program helped organize the trip as an extension of the National Conference and an opportunity for, both the state’s Board, and the local program representatives to see how other communities are implementing the Main Street approach to Downtown revitalization in the field.  As part of their two-day pre conference tour the Wyoming delegation will also meet with the Main Street programs in Auburn and Wenatchee.

Ellensburg Downtown Association Board President, Gary Jones noted that “We were flattered to be chosen as one of the three communities being visited.  As a new program ourselves, we’re as excited about what we can learn from the Wyoming delegation as they are about what we can share.”  The Ellensburg Downtown Association is also in the beneficial position of being a young program with a veteran manager so we should have a lot to share and are hopeful both organizations will gain some new insights and useful tools for implementing a successful downtown revitalization program.”

Association Director Timothy Bishop,  is equally optimistic.  “The Wyoming Main Street program is just two years old and some of the local programs are less than a year old and going through many of the same growing pains that we are here in downtown Ellensburg, so this is a great opportunity for our local board members and staff to network with groups dealing with those same issues.”

The Wyoming group will arrive in Ellensburg this Friday at 2:30 and will meet with association staff and Board members as well as other community leaders such as the Chamber Director, City Manager, and Economic Development Director, and representatives from Central Washington University

In addition to the Board of Directors for Wyoming’s state-wide Main Street program, the delegation will also include staff and volunteers from the 5 pilot Main Street Programs of Dubois, Green river, Laramie, Rawlins, and Rock Springs.

Ellensburg’s revitalization program received their designation as a Main Street program earlier this month just after Ellensburg was also recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of this year’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations.
