Ellensburg Downtown Association’ Brown Bag Business Basics series continues this Thursday March 15th

The Ellensburg Downtown Association’s monthly Brown Bag Business Basics series will continue this Thursday March 15th at Noon at the Ellensburg Public Library/ Hal Holmes Community Center.

The Brown Bag Business Basics is a book review based seminar series.  Each month a member of the Ellensburg Downtown Association’s economic restructuring committee or other local business owner will review a new business related book.  The review will be followed by a general discussion of the featured topic and a list of other related titles.

This Month’s featured book is “Our Iceberg is Melting” by John Kotter , and will be reviewed by Joan Allyn.  The book is a parable based look at how organizations and businesses can deal with change in the marketplace.

Ellensburg Downtown Association Board member Chris Schmidt feels that this is a great opportunity for downtown business owners.  “By working with our local businesses owners to review the books and present the information, we can really help localize the information and share it on a peer to peer basis.”

Ellensburg Downtown Association Director Timothy Bishop, has been surprised by the enthusiasm and positive response for the series.  “We had an average of 15 business owners attend the seminars for the first two months and our local bookstores are reporting that they’ve also sold several copies of this month’s book.”

Chris Schmidt added that this is also a great partnership with the Library and the local business community. “The library is in the process of adding a new business section and already has a wealth of informational resources both in books and online resources, and this series is a great opportunity to help our downtown businesses owners find those resources that may be beneficial for their business. Debby DeSoer and the Ellensburg Public Library deserve a huge “Thank you” from us and the Ellensburg Business Community as a whole. These kinds of partnerships demonstrate that Downtown Ellensburg is thriving and growing and worth putting time and effort into. “The library welcomes any suggestions of materials to purchase for its new Business Collection. We also have copies of the featured books available to check out,” Debby added.

The Brown Bag Business Basics is held the Third Thursday of each month at Noon at the Hal Holmes center and is free to the public.  A complete schedule for the year including upcoming titles, is available on the Ellensburg Downtown Association’s website at www.ellensburgdowntown.org
